When owner Lifespace Communities and developer Greystone Communities came to SAS to reposition their senior living campus in 2016 and explained their intentions we knew an exciting project was being proposed. We were tasked with providing a new Assisted Living/Memory Care building, modernized Skilled Nursing neighborhoods to house existing residents in new construction, and a new luxury apartment Independent Living addition.
The video below is the compilation of all phases after completion.
The design grew into a new two winged building for an AL/MS wing and SN wing. Communal spaces and a porte cochere joined them together in the middle over two phases of construction for one integrated building.
The Independent Living building began as that phase ended. After design iterations taking into consideration the adjacent pond, landscape, site layout, and traffic patterns the 5-story with parking building was completed with balconies overlooking the nature areas, 2-story communal gathering space, and interior and exterior pathways integrating the fabric of the existing community and pond proximity.
The final phase was the renovation of the original Skilled Nursing (SN) wing into a few new apartments and a large space for community gatherings and events. We emphasized the existing skylight to brighten the room, brought in more natural materials throughout and added interior plantings with new windows on the facade to connect the new immersive exterior garden and communal space to the interior.
