JDBY Boys School Chicago, Illinois
This boys school was an outstanding project designed for a growing Jewish community in a neighborhood setting in Chicago. Newly renovated, and in many ways an entirely new building for K through 12 providing an exciting new place to learn. The project involved a complete remodel of the existing building and a two story addition for a total area of 40,000 s.f. The exterior finish, while going through several material schematic options, ultimately was designed as a monolithic material in brick and stone. The materials fit well into the existing neighborhood architecture, which had strong street presence and similar materials. As an affect of the design/construction process the students moved from the existing outdated facility into a state of the art building, equipped with the newest educational technology, spacious Gymnasium, several classrooms, Science Labs, Computer Labs and outdoor Playground area for younger and older children. This successful effort fully met the Community expectations and has been a great beginning for more schooling projects in that area.
