Sophia at Hawthorn Mall – Mall Conversion Vernon Hills, Illinois
The Senior Living project at Hawthorn Mall will serve as an essential piece of a masterplan to create a symbiotic relationship between malls and newly built residential communities, providing a single location to live, work, play and retire. The project’s 5-story exterior design utilizes brick, stone, and siding to complement the character of nearby developments. With an expansive lobby and luxurious apartment offerings, the project will provide a welcoming feeling for the residents of the independent living units, assisted living units and memory care units. All of the residents will have access to serene roof gardens, as well as a private balcony for each living unit. The building’s community spaces support a myriad of offerings, including unique dining experiences, fitness programming, and daily activities to supplement the opportunities provided by the mall. To promote an intergenerational environment, certain common areas on the ground level, such as a bistro, salon, and landscaped plaza will be accessible to the general public. Between the public amenities, private spaces, and surrounding conveniences, this project will combine the resources of a large mall with the coziness of a home, while reinforcing a sense of community amongst the residents.
